Horse and Carriage Society

2008 began with a display at the High Desert Trail
Riders--Back Country Horsemen's annual Horse Packing
and Wilderness Skills Clinic. On display were several
vehicles including Joe & Margie Brick's rare
restored Mountain Wagon--a vehicle used in the
1850s gold rush to haul ore and supplies up narrow
mountain roads with donkeys.

In the interest of cultural exchange, Gale Emmons
traveled to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to attend the
annual eastern Haflinger Gathering. It was the first
time in nearly 100 years that horses and wagons were
allowed on the battlefield. Pictured: Gale with
Bob Duvall, of Kitten Hill Farm in Virginia, a top-notch
teamster and breeder of excellent Haflingers.

More than 45 Haflingers participated in the eastern

wait patiently on the site of Artillery Ridge where the
Union gathered their arms and ammunition.
